It's a Land Rover!
After owning a few Land Rovers you fall in love with them, so when you think of Africa and safari the romantic image is a Land Rover as well.  So this in mind I purchased a Land Rover 110 300TDi Defender.
Modifications
Only a few modifications, upgraded the suspension to Old Man Emu heavy duty springs and shocks front and rear.
A snorkel and K & N air filter, the idea with the K & N was with the recharge kit I could clean it regularly and hopefully increase the airflow that the snorkel took away.
I added some underbody protection consisting of rock/tree sliders, steering guard, diff guard and shackles for towing front and back.
I added an extra spare wheel as well as the one on the bonnet by fitting a swingaway wheel carrier on the back which also has the Hi-lift jack mounted to it.
For extra fuel I mounted a jerry can holder that holds 3 20ltr jerry cans in the front centre of the roof rack.  The roof rack is 3/4 length so I still have the advantage of my sunroof.  Also mounted on the roof rack is the roof tent and the ever important washing tub, spare gas bottle and other smely stuff lives in a small waterproof box also on the roof rack, none of wich seems to effect the handling to any great degree.
Inside I purchased some very expensive Treker breathable seat covers as we are going to be sat on them a very long time.  Keeping 2 of the back seats and fitting an Engel 40ltr fridge in place of the 3rd seat, and a cubby box replacing the ront middle seat where I have fitted a control panel for all auxillaries.  It has twin batteries, 1 being a deep cycled GMS with a marine split charge system, a very tight squeeze as both batteries are 110amps.  There is also a battery cut-off switch fitted.
The Rear is separated by a luggage guard with internal security screens to the rear windows and the waffle boards mounted the length of the side windows, with extra locks to all doors giving us hopefully a secure area.  Inside the back we have a drawer, over the rear wheels there is a  lockable metal trunk, the bottom of which is taken up with a 70ltr water tank.  We have 2 large boxes for food storage on one side and the other side is taken up with our water purification system, with the kitchen fitting neatly between.  Tools fitting neatly in the side void left by the drawer and spares living under the drivers seat.  Two cargo nets streching the length of the rear on either side.
There is a canopy fitted to the side that supports itself independently and we have a tent that clips underneath with a sewn in ground sheet and moquitoe net all round so we can cook or just sit without being bothered by mosquitoes and other bugs.
The only other thing I can think of right now is a light bar attached to the front.
